Special Artist Reception: Thursday, February 2, 2017
Time: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Location: Bonner David Galleries
Featuring her monumental work “Bloodline” Holly Wilson traces her biracial personal history back to her oldest native ancestor of the Delaware roll along the Trail of Tears. She explores the liminal space between her upbringing and the stories she remembers from her childhood. Using bronze stick people, known as cigar figures (formed from real cigars), each generation is grouped together upon a locust branch, representing her own family tree, all connected by a similar lineage. Constantly transversing one side of the racial divide or the other, art has helped her discover her own place in the world. Showcasing more of Wilson’s works than ever before seen in Arizona, this exhibition represents an epic journey you won’t want to miss.
Wilson recently discussed her work “A View From Within Under The Skin” in a video, to view this work and listen to Wilson’s insights, please click here.
