On Thursday, May 10, 2012, from 6-9 pm, Bonner David Galleries will be hosting a show, featuring the best of the best from several of our artists. The show, entitled, “Favorites,” will showcase the captivating still life paintings of Cary Ennis, John Schieffer, Jane Jones, and our newest artist, Benjamin Shamback, the landscapes of Brad Aldridge, the mesmerizing cityscape scenes from John Harrell, the intriguing works of Carol Redmond and Katherine Lemke Waste’s stunning watercolor pieces.

Each of these artists will be displaying their favorite new works from this year during the upcoming show, thus the title, “Favorites.” The pieces they have chosen will not disappoint and with such variety, something will surely capture your attention. Whether you prefer landscapes or still lifes, oil paintings or waters colors, or contemporary or traditional, there is certain to be a piece that will catch your eye. With so many artists and their many new works, this show is an event you don’t want to miss, so come join us for an evening of fun!

This year AZ Foothills partnered with the Phoenix Dream Center to create a place of refuge for girls ages 18-30, who have been rescued from human trafficking and sex slavery. It was chosen as an alternative to the annual show house, in favor of making a difference and supporting a cause. Ten designers from around the city were asked to volunteer their time and resources, to make this project a success. Vallone Design, located in Scottsdale, was chosen to be one of the designers.

Vallone Design contacted Bonner David Galleries, inviting us to be a part of this project, by donating a piece for the room. Through the gracious donation of artist, Liz Tran, we were able to contribute. The cheerful, uplifting nature of Tran’s work, coupled with the innocent themes and vibrant colors, made her a desirable addition to the decor of the room. The piece chosen by Tran, entitled “Lift,” has significant meaning. In a house meant to lift up young women, challenged by difficult lives, the piece is certain to bring a sense of restored hope and tranquility. Tran said of her choice, “For some reason Lift stands out to me as the correct piece for the project.  I hope it helps with creating healing energy in the house.”

The Phoenix Women’s Board of the Steele Children’s Research Center, more commonly known as PANDA – People Acting Now Discover Answers will be hosting the event. Since being founded in 1999, they have raised over 3.7 million for the Steele Center, to support their mission of discovering improved treatments and cures for childhood diseases.

Bonner David Galleries is a proud commutity partner with PANDA. This will be the gallery’s 5th year as a supporter and partner. Last year alone, Bonner David Galleries was able to raise over 10,000 dollars, through the generous donations of our artists. This year, nine more pieces will be dontated by artists Quim Bove, Ron Burns, Carol Redmond, Michael Carson, Claudia Hartley, Francis Livingston, Dyana Hesson, Robert LaDuke and Jane Jones.

Bonner David Galleries and PANDA are also inviting you to contribute and take part in the bidding process. If you are interested contact Robyn Broshears from Auction Event Solutions at robyn@aesarizona.com or (480) 636-1303 to pre-register to bid remotely on items. She will collect the necessary information to register you and inform you how the remote bidding process works. They have asked that all pre-registration is completed by Friday, May 11, at 12 pm, so make sure to contact her if you are unable to attend the event but are interested in bidding on the paintings below. Born in Catalonia, Spain, he has been painting his entire life. His art flourished in Europe for many years. He was a window display director for Hermes in Southern France, Christian Dior in Barcelona and later Saks Fifth Avenue, until he eventually moved to Arizona, drawn by the inspirational powers and colors of the Sonoran desert.

Painting is Bove’s passion and pure, untainted portrayal of that passion, has become his art. His work is characterized with palettes of colors that jump from the canvas with fluid patterns of motion and explosions. “My artwork translates the relationship between humanity and the universe through a metaphoric representation of flashes of the human mind in different stages.” He paints with a rich blend of color and shine, eliciting feelings of comfort and warmth.

Bove’s most recent collection, entitled “Abstraction,” will continue this theme, taking his portfolio to new heights. Each unique, and skillfully composed painting, is sure to capture the imagination and hearts of everyone in the room. It was a night where both collector and those new to Morris’ work, could enjoy the magnificent beauty of her paintings, along with wine and chocolate. The works of Morris transcend the lines of contemporary and traditional, with landscapes that capture the raw essence of the scenery through their vivid hues and striking contrasts. This year’s show is no exception, with paintings that leave the viewer in awe of their simple grandeur. She paints each one in a way that “captures the resonant wonder of the land.”

Many of the scenes, portray the intriguing landscape of California, where Morris currently resides. However, she does not confine herself to the coasts or hillsides of one state, but seeks to “capture the soothing exubrance of the Western Landscape.” Come visit Bonner David Galleries and enter the world of Gail Morris, filled with light, color and breathtaking scenes.

With fields of poppies, rustic barns, and hillside pastures, each scene takes you away to the serene sights of the Oregon countryside. Ranging in sizes from full wall size to small, her paintings fill a room creating a beautiful and tranquil atmosphere.

On Thursday evening, March 1, we hosted the opening of Youngquist’s show.  Here to reveal her newest paintings, Youngquist traveled, with her husband, to attend the show. Full of life and vibrancy, she was thrilled to see the fruits of her labors framed and displayed throughout the gallery. Each piece was a hit, stealing glances and hearts of everyone in attendance. Only adding to the richness of the night, were the decadent chocolates, brought all the way from Honest Portland by Youngquist herself. It was a night filled with friends, drinks, chocolate and art. What more could you ask for?

Embracing the pure untainted beauty of abstract painting, Hammond creates work that catches the eye and stirs you at the core. Focusing on color, form and texture, he is able to create unique paintings that evoke emotion and intrigue.

Hammond received his B.F.A from the University of Utah; painting landscapes of the salt marshes he grew up around, as well as studying the classical human form. However, his love for color began when he won a six-week trip to Mexico. There he saw color used in a way he had never seen before. The people utilized color to bring life to otherwise dull and unsightly living quarters. Later, Hammond received his M.F.A in painting from Arizona State University.

Hammond’s upcoming show, “Unintended Light,” will feature his newest paintings, which seem to emit a light and a life of their own. Hammond says of his art, “Abstract painting is the poetry of painting; it exists to converse with you in solitary moments as in the solitude it was created. It doesn’t tell you what it means, it suggests, teases and eludes, perhaps even whispers to you when you can’t sleep at night. And even as the words in a sentence may change their intonations with time so may the color passages shift in your eyes.” Come join us at the reception, Saturday, February 25, 2012, from 1:00-5:00pm and enjoy these amazing works of art for yourself.

There is probably none more appropriate to honor Arizona, than Burton, who has always been a true Westerner at heart. After graduating from Arizona State University, Burton went on to study oil painting at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Once finished, he realized that “art is a lifelong study,” and began in his journey. Whether it is with plein air painting of California and Arizona, or figure studies of foreign cultures, Burton continues to expand his talent, reinventing himself to showcase his diverse talent.

Burton’s technique and style is unmistakable. The deep, confident brushstrokes of his work, creates a depth and level of emotion that pulls the viewer in and it is these distinct characteristics that have been noticed by many, earning him numerous awards and much praise. Among these awards are third place in the National Oil Painters of America show in Taos, NM and second in the National Oil and Acrylics Painters Society’s annual competition. Additionally, he has been exhibited in dozens of art galleries and museums across the country.

He told Southwest Art in 2011, it is “an honor to carry on the grand tradition of painting the American landscape.” Continuing this tradition, Burton’s February show will feature 100 miniatures, done with oil on board, depicting landscapes from throughout the state of Arizona. They convey both his technique and his love for the beauties of the state. “With my landscape painting, I consider them part of my life’s journey.” Come in and see all 100 of these one of a kind masterpieces, representing a state beloved by its many inhabitants.

Bonner David’s newest artist, Benjamin Shamback, is adding a unique flair with his paintings. His work is characterized by the rich color and vivid detail, expressed in his simple, yet beautifully intricate still life paintings. Using subject matter such as filled glasses, vases, delicate flowers and brightly colored bags he creates eye-catching work that seldom fails to draw one in.

Working with oil is his specialty; however, Shamback is one of the only painters in the United States who paints on copper, exclusively. He began painting on this surface after studying a piece by Baroque artist, Artemesia Gentileschi, which was painted with oil on copper. By working with this unique combination, Shamback only adds to the depth and intrigue of his paintings. In addition, he seeks a greater discovery in his work, stating that, “the intense realism of these paintings is intended as a contrast to the physicality and harshness of the metal.” His passion for his art is evident in his work. “I am drawn in every painting, to the tension between the conveyance and clarity of information and the conceptual and technical potential of paint.”

Shamback received a BA in illustration from Central Connecticut State University in 1996. In 1999 he earned his masters of Fine Arts from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri. Located now in Mobile, Alabama with his wife and two daughters, he is also a Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of South Alabama.

Claudia Hartley’s style has evolved over the years, leading to her newest works. During college, she experimented widely with abstracts. She later went through a time of painting portraits, using an impressionistic or realistic style, in oils. Yet, she missed strong, vibrant colors. Now, her love of Fauvist painters and their use of bright colors are very apparent, in her modernist paintings. She chooses to convey the love of her subject matter using exciting, bold colors in acrylics. When describing her own paintings, she says they are “happy, cheerful” and “intricate composition, [using a] large variety of colors and layers of patterns.” Hartley’s eye-catching creations of Southern interiors and stunning landscapes successfully convey her love for her surroundings, giving viewers the same chance to enjoy the world in which we live.

Dyana Hesson, known for her beautifully detailed flowers, will be showing her annual collection of conversation hearts, small paintings of roses named after the Valentine candy. Continuing with her love of nature and its beauty, she has recently begun painting landscapes, viewing nature from a different perspective. From the time she was young, nature has always been her love and inspiration.  Plants and flowers were always a part of her life. “God’s creation is what inspires me” and it is the diverse and mountainous landscapes of the West she has fallen in love with. The oceans of California, red rocks of the desert and the mountains of Montana andColorado, all provide Hesson with ideal inspiration for her Western landscapes. She hopes her art can be healing and free us, for just a moment, from the complex lives we lead, reminding people of the beauty that constantly surrounds us.
