Heir to Warhol and the 1960’s counter-culture, Todd Pierce advocates that “a picture is worth a thousand words.” His Pictogram Art attempts to capture today’s popular culture through universal iconography.

A pictogram is a pictorial symbol that conveys a word, a phrase or an idea. Since the dawn of humanity, pictographs have been used as the earliest known form of writing. They usually transcend culture and can help speakers of different languages communicate more effectively. Better known as “icons” in contemporary communication, pictograms have been popularized through the use of computer and phone technology.

Todd Pierce has embraced these modern symbols and has turned them into universal pop art. He purposely takes these emblems out of their original intended context and gives them new meaning. Pierce resolutely wants his art to be a bridge between languages, cultures, social status, and age.

Unfolding the Magic: Kevin Box

Kevin Box, Folding Planes” 50” x 29" x 30” $28,000 stainless steal bronze on stone

Kevin Box  “Folding Planes”  50” x 29” x 30”  $28,000  stainless steal bronze on stone

This unique piece is available exclusively through Bonner David Galleries.

There is something magical about Kevin Box’s sculptures. Each one of them is an ode to imagination, to simplicity, to childhood fun. Viewers, however, experience much more than just a trip back in time. In his powerful steel sculpture entitled “Folding Planes,” Kevin Box brings us to the realm of memory, innocence, and fun. How do you make something as fragile as paper last forever? How do you make good memories last for always?
Most of us can relate to paper airplanes. We learned the craft of paper folding from our peers. We all went through a phase of initiation, intense production, and experimentation, before we, in turn, passed on the art to younger siblings, younger schoolmates, or even, for some of us, to our own children. Box emphasizes good memories, the ones we keep deep in our hearts.
Kevin Box’s work is the result of years of pioneering and perfecting the art of casting paper in stainless steel. Viewing himself as a 21st century artist, Box has chosen stainless steel as his medium of choice, not just for its durability, but also for how it relates to this brave new world. Paper is the central theme to Box’s work. The artist weaves together metaphors for the passing of time, the power of the imagination, and the magic of childhood.

July Featured Artist Michael Carson

Bonner David Galleries
July 2020 Featured Artist – Michael Carson
“Contemplative Moments”

Image of oil painting "Blue Flowers" by artist Michael Carson, on display at Bonner David Galleries in Scottsdale, Arizona and New York

Michael Carson has been called the “post-millennial Toulouse-Lautrec.” Like the turn of the century French master, Carson is a self-described people watcher. He paints figures with a soft, sophisticated touch. His works summon a pensive, ethereal feeling in the viewer. His subjects seem absorbed in a world of contemplation and inward thinking.

Working loosely and spontaneously, Michael Carson makes every brushstroke count. His use of color and light contributes to the overall meditative mood of his paintings, although he allows the viewer to interpret meaning using their own experience. These captured moments and this focus on atmosphere make Carson’s art both personal and universal and appeals to an increasing number of collectors in the United States and abroad.

“Elements of Earth” | New works
Bonner David Galleries | Scottsdale

Oil painting by aritst Gail Morris, titled "Reflections", on display at Bonner David Galleries, Scottsdale, Arizona, April 16-May18, 2020

Just in time for this spring season of renewal and hope, we’ve received eight stunning new paintings from Gail Morris for her “Elements of Earth” show scheduled for next week.  While circumstances do not permit our original artist reception, we’ve beautifully hung the pieces in our gallery space and they make such a statement. Until we can unveil the actual show, we want you to have a chance to view and collect these works, so we’ve created a virtual exhibit in a flipbook format. You can view Gail Morris’ virtual exhibit flipbook here.

We are still periodically at the gallery, so you can feel free to contact us there by email. We can arrange for a private social distance tour and take care of all the necessary details to ensure safe delivery to your home.  Gail has been working tirelessly for this show and we’re proud to bring it to you, even if in a little different format. Our hope is that you and your loved ones remain safe during these uncertain times and that we’ll soon welcome you back to our lovely gallery spaces, both in Scottsdale and New York.

Here is a quick peek of this stunning exhibit from Gail Morris on display at Bonner David Galleries in Scottsdale, Arizona:

1 Window shop, we will leave the lights on, feel free to peer in.
2 Contact us for a private tour should you want a closer look.
3 Look online and in your inbox for more photographs & video.

In late spring, some friends and I went to a cabin in the woods in Prescott. We cooked, antique shopped, and of course, hiked. There are some wonderful trails in Prescott, along creeks, among the pinons and under the pine trees. It was on one of those hikes that we spied this beautiful mound of Echinocereus triglochidiatus glowing on a bank, nestled among the pine needles and boulders. It demanded a closer look.

While I was on this trip, I got the call that my dad was not doing so well. There was nothing I could do, and I was so far away. My friends listened to me, cried with me, prayed with me. And that’s what good friends do. They are like shining lights at the end of a dark tunnel. The beauty these cactus blooms will always remind me of their love and care.

There is something inherently romantic about Romona Youngquist’s paintings. Her pastoral scenes, often picturing a lonely farmhouse in the midst of a breathtaking landscape, are reminders of the Arcadian delights celebrated by Virgil in Ancient Rome. They also show, in a very subtle way, our place within creation, and are a humbling reminder that humanity can live in harmony with nature.
Each of Romona Younquist’s paintings is a symphony, an ode to nature and its beauty. Through strong design, rigorous composition, and the effective use of contrast, Youngquist creates or re-creates peaceful and uplifting scenes. Her paintings invite the viewer into a place they want to stay or return over and over. Each offers universal serenity and a feeling of homecoming.
Youngquist’s paintings nurture the soul. Nature, as a comforting source of physical and spiritual sustenance, is depicted with modulated tonalities and balanced proportions. Youngquist uses a limited palette and mixes every hue with extreme care while allowing splashes of vibrant colors to instill energy and guide the eye. Very few living painters have been able to achieve such aesthetic balance. This is why Romona Youngquist is so admired, so talked about, and so collected, both nationally and internationally.

Romona’s show will be on display until March 23rd, 2020.

Nathan Fischer’s Artist Statement

My focus is on the abstract landscape. Places that are not seen or experienced in person, but are familiar in some way. The settings appear to be raw, and untouched by human influence, but inherit an urban tone with the use of industrial textures and composition. There is power in the presentation of each piece by integrating the natural with the urban. I do this by using natural forming organic colors and subject matter, and contrast this with the presentation of a man-made item, using a high gloss finish on a hand forged, refined metal canvas. My goal is to create work that has an individual appeal, but that speaks the universal language of the landscape.

Bonner David Galleries has long been in support of our furry family members and is excited to join in the celebration of dogs. From search and rescue dogs and shelter dogs, to portraits of loved pets, past and present, he has a keen eye for capturing the souls of our favorite animals.

During the night, we will also have donations from Bentley’s Biscuts, who create healthy and tasty treats that dogs simply love. Join us from 7:00 – 9:00 pm of April 10th, for a night dedicated to our pets who hold a special place in our hearts.
